How to convert a lead to a contact?

In the sales process, the life of a lead comes to an end, in the following scenarios - the lead gets disqualified, the business is closed in the lead stage, the lead gets transformed to a 
  1. Probable business opportunity (deal) or 
  2. A contact who may bring business opportunity in the future or 
  3. A company, in case of account-based marketing.
The article covers the steps to be followed for converting/qualifying an existing lead in the system to contact.

Prerequisites

  1. Permissions:  Any user with create permssion on contact& update permission on lead
  2. Product Plans: All
  3. Activities to be Completed: Lead Creation

Steps

Step 1 
Click on the List button under the 'Leads' tab on the homepage. This will lead to the All leads page. Find the lead to be converted from the list,  either manually scrolling down or by using the filters. Click on the lead name to navigate to the Lead details page.



Step 2
Click on the 'Drop-down' button on the top right corner of the Lead Details pane. Click on the 'Convert' option from the drop-down list, which will open a new window ('Convert Lead').



Step 3
Click on the check box on the left of the text "Contact". This will open the form for filling in contact information.



Step 4 (a)
Click on the radio button "Create New" to create a new contact. Fill in the information of the contact in the form below the radio button.



Step 4 (b)
Click on the radio button "Choose Existing" if the lead has to be linked with an existing contact. The existing contact can be found using the search bar that will be displayed below the radio button.



Step 5 
After step 4, click on the 'Convert' button at the bottom right corner of the form to complete the conversion process.



Step 6
On successful conversion, the user will be presented with the modal shown below. Click on 'Done' button to go back to the Lead Details page.




Once a lead is converted, the user will not be able to edit the Lead. Also, the user will not be able to add tasks for the converted lead. The contact associated with the Lead can be seen on the Lead Details page. There will not be any restriction in adding notes on the Lead details page.
